Fresh flowers, especially those from Canada, are blooming in Ontario.
The blooms are accompanied by a lot of new interest in the new crop of Canadian flowers, which is called chrysantshemum, the official name of this type of plant.
Ontario, Canada, is home to more than 200 species of flowering plants, but only about 15 to 20 are native to the province.
One such species, the Chryanthemums thompsonii, is now a rare sight in the province, according to the Canadian Plant Commission.
The flowers are known as burgundy roses.
Burgundy roses are native from North America and are often referred to as burguanas.
“We see them as a beautiful and interesting hybrid, because they look so similar to the original type,” said Paul Mascari, the Canadian plant commissioner.
The flower is often called “a bit of a mite,” but it’s not a mites only.
It can grow up to 2 feet tall, and is an ornamental plant.
Burguanas have an orange-red, red or blue flower, but they are more common in Ontario than in the United States.
They can produce up to 10,000 flowers a year, according the Canadian Natural Resources Agency.
Chryantshemums are now available in Ontario, and will be available statewide in spring 2018.
A growing trend in the flowering industry is for plants to have multiple varieties, so new varieties can be introduced to new areas.
Mascarini says the Ontario industry is not the only one that’s seeing a change in flower trends.
“This is a great time to plant them,” he said.
“I can’t wait to see what other blooms will be coming up in the spring.”
Fresh flowers from New Brunswick are also being imported into Ontario.
Miscarini said this is another sign that Ontario is growing a lot more interested in this species, and that it could help boost the industry in Ontario over the long term.
“It’s going to be a good year to plant,” he added.
“People are very excited to have these flowers.”
