‘Frozen’ is the most successful film of the year in the UK with over $4.7bn (£2.3bn) in worldwide box office
“Frozen” is the UK’s most successful movie of the new year with more than $4bn in global box office, the BBC has claimed.
It came in second behind Avatar: The Legend of Korra, which has been a top global hit and earned a staggering $4 billion.
The film also topped the box office charts in France, Spain, Germany, Russia and Brazil.
The chart shows Frozen has made over $7.6bn since its UK release, the highest of any film.
The UK version of the film has earned over $2bn in total.
It is also the second-highest-grossing UK release of all time, ahead of The Dark Knight.
The BBC said Frozen is the fifth-highest grossing movie in UK history with $3.3 billion.
It surpassed Avatar, which came in third.
Frozen, which follows the adventures of Elsa, Anna and Kristoff as they embark on a winter vacation in the fictional town of Arendelle, is the first feature-length film in more than 30 years to make the top 10 of the UK box office.
In France, Frozen made $1.8bn, which made it the biggest hit of the month and the biggest movie in French cinema history.
It also took in $1bn in Germany and $1 billion in Spain.
In Germany, Frozen earned $1m, bringing its total box office earnings to over $10bn.
In Spain, Frozen grossed $1 million in total, bringing it to over €2bn.
It has also made a huge impact in Russia.
It made more than €2.7 billion in its first 24 days in the country.
Founded in 2012, Disney is the world’s biggest animated company, with revenue of $4 trillion, according to the New York Times.
